There is a factory in Northern Ireland which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms. Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00 AM. The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager's door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee. He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule. The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor. When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo's all over the factory floor and they're really beginning to pile up. At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo's. She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles. The 2 men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo's legs. The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter. After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena. "I'm sorry," he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, "but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday..." "Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.

My younger brother is considering an Officer career in the Royal Navy or RAF once he has done his A-levels. He wants to serve for around 6 years. We would be interested to hear what sort of reception Logistics Officers get from other departments- an Army friend of ours tells us that they are quite often the first to get victimised if an operation goes wrong and quite a few find the job very boring. Is this true? My brother is good at, and enjoys, organising things like provisions and supplies for expeditions and local events. Is Logistics the right path to take, in your opinion, if this is what he wants to do? Thanks

I am a single woman with no children.I currently work full time.I have ageing parents who also take up a considerable amount of my time.Between work and my parents there is no time left for me.In my current circumstances I could afford to work part time, although this would not be possible with my present employers, who do not like employing part time staff, but what reasons can I give to new potential employers as to why I want to work part time?If I say I need more time to spend with my parents, will they think I'm a liability? On the other hand, if I say I want more time to myself, will employers think that I'm not committed to my job, which I am? I would like to spend some of the extra time doing voluntary work; is this an acceptable reason to give? If I do obtain part time employment, will I ever be taken seriously by employers again? After all, there may come a time when I need to return to full time work.
