DWP Benefits Compliance Interview?
Since my partner is receiving job seekers allowance and both of us were invited into DWP's compliance interview. I am a Self-Employment and the compliance manager asked me to submit my Client List & All Invoices for them to check if any unpaid invoices exist. In the first place, should I accept such request? Due to the data protection act, I believe I have obligations to protect my clients' personal information and I myself committed them not to disclose these info. So, do I have any choice? Secondary, if I pass the information then can DWP contact directly to my clients to check if they already paid or still didn't? None of my clients are aware that we're receiving dole and such contacts may damage my reputation. The compliance officer said they can do these things when they have any doubt & start fraud investigation. I basically don't have anything to conceal but the above 2 points make me worry. Can anybody enlighten me what I should do? Thank you. Richard

You are being investigated for benefit fraud... that is a SERIOUS offence that risks imprisonment. I'm not sure you've quite grasped the situation you're in... More

A Compliance Officer is another name for a fraud investigator. Yes they can contact your clients. The Data Protection Act doesn't apply if fraud is being investigated.
