Teaching assistant job interview written task URGENT HELP?

I have a job interview tomorrow for a level 2 teaching assistant and have been asked to write a letter to a parent about a child. This is what I have to write about.

The following is information on one of our students. Write a letter to her parents to explain the issues we are having in school and what actions we intend to take.

Samantha is a year 7 student. She is SA+ (School Action Plus) on the Code of Practice for learning. She is having difficulty interacting with her peers. She is struggling to access the curriculum, however she does not fully engage with her rapid reading and literacy hour sessions. She arrives to the Teaching Assistant late for the sessions and makes excuses not to get on with the work. She tries to stop others from getting on with tasks that they are completing in the literacy and numeracy room.

She does seem to enjoy her numeracy recovery sessions and is making progress in Maths. This progress can be seen from the last data collection as she has made a whole level of progress in the last six months.

The Progress and Aspiration Leader would like to have a meeting with the parents to try and move Samantha forward. The SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) would like to come to the meeting too. How can Samantha’s enthusiasm for Maths be transferred to literacy skills?

I am having real prob emss with writing this letter. please if somebody could help me I would really appreciate the help.

Thank you

I'm a primary school teacher and I've worked with children with similar difficulties to this.

If I were you, I'd make the letter formal but friendly, perhaps telling the parents that you are pleased with Samantha's enthusiasm and hard work in maths, and that you would like their help in discussing ways to transfer this to her literacy as well. I might suggest designing cross-curricular activities for her, beginning with tasks focusing on her speaking and listening skills. You could use numeracy activities which have previously kept her engaged, and encourage her to try to describe her thought processes and decision making. Talking about problems she can solve will improve her confidence and help with her articulacy. This could then be progressed to role-playing, where she could act as teacher to show another pupil how to complete a task she has performed well. If she responds well to this, she could begin writing simple reports on mathematical investigations she has carried out, and with constant praise and encouragement from her teachers and mentors, she would gain the courage to be more adventurous in her literacy work without the fear of failure.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone. I am finishing my degree in may next year and would like to get a job as a teaching assistant before i do my teacher training. Does anybody know when schools advertise for TA's for them to start after the 6 week hols (in september?). Is it around easter time? Also, how long is the application and interview process? In other words when would you know if you had the job or not? Thanks, Sam x

I have mostly been working abroad teaching English to natives in their country. Is there any chance I would be able to get a job as a teaching assistant in a UK secondary or primary school? What should i put on my CV (resume)? This would be good on my PGCE application you see.

I'm currently at University studying Child Psychology but I'm only there one day a week so would like to get a job with Children for the rest of the week. Something along the lines of teaching Assistant or Nursery assistant. How do you find out about such jobs available though as I never see them advertised anywhere. I have checked on places like Gumtree - but are there any other websites like that? I live in Oxfordshire btw! :)
