 | I achieved CCD (History, Psychology, English Literature) at A-Level in 2011. I also have the Welsh Baccalaureate. I originally applied for a History Degree at University, however decided this wasn't for me.
Two years later, I have decided that Midwifery is the path I want to go in to, but I know my A-Levels are not good enough for this highly competitive course.
I was wondering if you I could do an access course at a local college this September. I will be 20 in July, and feel as if I shouldn't just jump straight into University without doing something related to Midwifery, even if it means studying Biology at A-Level instead.
Will the college allow me to take a course if I already have A-Levels or with they turn me down, and take on other people who don't have qualifications?
I need an answer asap, as the course is so competitive and I am already late in applying!

 | I need to apply for a university course and im in my last year of high school it was a toss between studying to be a nurse or a midwife. I have went with nursing atm, is it a good career? I am a very caring and passionate person and I believe that nursing would be a good job for me. What are the downsides of nursing? Thankyou

 | Women often demand equality in the workplace, so what's the best way of recruiting men to midwifery.
It's not important that the midwife is a man, surely? I don't like women train drivers or car drivers - , but we have to accept it. So what do women propose - if they want equality - about recruiting masses of men to the midwife profession?

 | I'm studying for an svq level 3 in childcare but would like to be a midwife, would the childcare qualification help me get into university to study midwifery?

 | Like the kids? Lets say if Jessa or Jinger wanted to do something with a friend, do Michelle and Jim Bob let them go off on their own like most parents or no?
When I turned a certain age, my parents allowed me to go out with friends.

 | I am about to finish my A levels and am predicted an A in Sociology, a B in Biology and a B in English Language. I also have an AS grade of a C in English Literature. When I started sixth form I had no idea what I wanted to do after A levels so I only took the subjects I felt confident in and got A's in at GCSE. I also took sociology because the course interested me, but after attending a 'mini medical school' as an extra curricular thing our teachers convinced us to do, I really wanted to become a doctor or have some sort of medical career. I talked to some teachers but they immediately said I will never be in with a chance without a Chemistry A level so I chose to apply to Nursing and Midwifery instead. This did not go down well due to the high level of competition and the fact that most of the girls applying had a health and social care A level. Then i talked to another teacher in my Biology department that told me that some universities offer Biomedical Science degrees that do not require a chemistry A level and this course, if I do well enough, could lead me onto Medicine. It also keeps my options open if I want to branch off into another job.
I am just wondering if there is anything I can do before re-applying next year that will help me into a medical career after my degree. what sort of grade I need at degree level to apply for medicine and how difficult is the Biomedical Science degree itself?

 | So, I want to be a Nurse with all of the knowledge and qualifications of a midwife too.
How would I do that? Do Nursing and then an extension to midwifery or the other way round?
Or would I do two separate degrees? If I'm to do two separate degrees - which would I do first then second?
Is there a degree that does both?
Thank you for any information :)

 | I'm writing a short story which involves someone who is a midwife. As I know very little about midwifery, I wanted to ask what a typical day involves.
My character is working a night shift. When you arrive, what sort of things do you do?
1. Do you show a card to anyone to get in?
2. Do you arrive in your uniform/overalls or get changed at the hospital?
3. What is the area where all the newborn babies are kept called?
4. Do you undergo the 'handover', where the day staff inform the night staff of the women on the ward?
5. What time does the night shift start and what time does it end?
6. Where are the babies born, specifically, what are the rooms called? Is it just a delivery suite?
7. Do you start your shift checking on the patients or doing paperwork?
Basically, my character can't have children of her own, so she spends her nights off watching over the newborn babies. She won't actually be working, but I just wanted to give a bit of background information as to what the other midwives are doing.
Thank you.

 | When I came out of High School, I needed away and went to spend some time with family in Spain, now I am back in Scotland-unfortunately. I need to do something with my life, i have only been away ten months and I was thinking of being a Midwife or a Nurse. I just think it would be so rewarding helping others and bringing new life into the world, and being a part of it all. I know either job isnt a bed of roses but you have to take the good with the bad I suppose. I have highers in the subjects needed for entry to study the courses at University, and I was wondering does anyone have any advice or tips? Is it a good career choice? Can I travel with a degree in Midwifery/Nursing, as in ten years time I do not see myself living here... Which would you choose? Thank you all so much :) Im 19 by the way...

 | I'd love to do midwifery, it seems so rewarding to deliver a baby and advise mothers on how to breastfeed etc. Would there be any restrictions considering I'm male?
Thanks :)

 | I'm nearly 17 and have done my GCSE's I've got 6 GCSE's at C and above, including English Literature, English Language, Science and Additional Science. I have just moved to Scotland and i am going to sixth form to do English, Maths and Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies at A-level. I really want to become a Midwife but I don't know what to do after sixth form, do i apply for University and train to be a midwife by doing a Midwifery degree or do I wait until I've finished sixth form and then just sort everything then? I just don't know where to start.
